In a Facebook post earlier today, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of a new subscription service called “Meta Verified”. The service will allow users to verify their accounts using government-issued IDs, obtain a blue badge, receive additional protection against impersonation accounts, and enjoy direct access to customer support.

According to Zuckerberg, the aim of the new feature is to increase authenticity and security across Facebook’s services. The service will be available on the web for $11.99/month and on iOS for $14.99/month. The rollout of Meta Verified will begin in Australia and New Zealand this week, with plans for expansion to more countries in the future.

The launch of Meta Verified is Facebook’s response to the growing demand for enhanced security and authenticity in social media. With the rise of fake news and misinformation, the need for verified and trustworthy sources of information is more crucial than ever. The addition of Meta Verified is expected to further increase user trust and confidence in the platform.

This announcement comes after Twitter launched its own subscription service, Twitter Blue, earlier this year.

As the competition between social media platforms heats up, it will be interesting to see what other new features Facebook will release in the coming months to keep up with the ever-changing demands of its users.
