Google has announced the launch of an experimental conversational AI service, Bard, which seeks to combine the world’s knowledge with the power and intelligence of Google’s language models. Powered by Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), Bard will draw on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses. The company is starting the testing phase with its lightweight model version of LaMDA, which will require less computing power and enable the company to scale to more users. The feedback from the testing phase will be combined with internal testing to ensure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and real-world information.

Google has a long history of using AI to improve its search engine for billions of people. The company’s AI advancements, such as LaMDA, PaLM, Imagen, and MusicLM, are creating new ways to engage with information, including language and images to video and audio. The company is working to bring these AI advancements into its products, starting with its search engine.

Soon, Google will roll out AI-powered features in its search engine that will allow users to quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web.

In addition to its own products, Google is also making it easy for developers, creators, and enterprises to benefit from its AI advancements by building on top of its best models. The company will start onboarding individual developers, creators and enterprises next month to try its Generative Language API, initially powered by LaMDA, with a range of language capabilities.

Overall, AI is the most profound technology that Google is working on today, and the company is excited about the possibilities it holds for improving the lives of billions of people. Whether it’s helping doctors detect diseases earlier or enabling people to access information in their own language, AI helps people, businesses, and communities unlock their potential and open up new opportunities.
